HVR - Data Replication

( Duration: 2 Days )

This HVR - Data Replication training course covers HVR's replication technology, as well as HVR's architecture and deployment options available to implement replication across the enterprise. All features, functions, and capabilities of HVR are reviewed in the lectures and demonstrations.

In this course you will learn how to enable end-to-end replication for each of the delivery methods: Continuous, TimeKey, Burst Integrate. You will also learn how to execute operational and administration tasks such as: maintenance job scheduling, reviewing logs and statistics, as well as best practices for troubleshooting and performance tuning.

By attending HVR - Data Replication workshop, delegates will learn to:

  • Identify the key solutions and use cases addressed by HVR
  • Describe the HVR architecture
  • Install HVR
  • Use HVR to define and manage replication channels
  • Understand all Integrate methods - Continuous, TimeKey, and Burst
  • Schedule automated execution of Refresh, Capture, and Integrate jobs
  • Provide examples for DDL replication and Schema DDL generation
  • Provide Administration and Operational support

  • Relational database concepts
  • SQL Command
  • UNIX and Windows Command Line
  • Database Administrators: (DBAs) responsible for real-time offload reporting, data warehousing, data lakes, continuous availability, upgrades and migrations
  • Database Architects: looking for data integration standardization across platforms
  • Data Warehouse/BI Managers
  • IT Operations and Management

COURSE AGENDA

1

Overview

  • Gain a high-level understanding of HVR. This includes product overview, platform support, key features, and review of common use cases
2

Concepts and Terminology

  • In this section, learn the basic concepts of HVR, HVR terminology, replication components, and get a walk-through of the data integration lifecycle
3

Architecture

  • This section covers the roles and responsibilities for each component in the replication architecture, which includes:
    • Hub
    • Remote Listener
    • Console
    • Locations and Location Groups
    • Channel Definitions
    • Refresh, Capture, Transaction files, Integrate, and maintenance jobs
  • Overview of Integrate methods:
    • Continuous Integrate – pure replication for continuous availability
    • TimeKey Integrate – for compliance and auditing and data consolidation
    • Burst Integrate – for optimized replication to data warehouse appliances
  • A detailed understanding recovery practices
4

Installation

  • How to use the HVR installation wizard to install the Hub
  • How to create the Hub catalog repository
  • How to install HVR agents on remote servers
  • Database prep for replication
  • Upgrade procedures
5

Channel Definitions

  • How to create replication channels
  • How to define locations and location groups
  • Using Table Explorer / hvradapt to add table definitions
  • Setting actions
  • Saving the channel definition with HVR Initialize
6

Actions

  • A deeper understanding of the basic replication Actions; Capture and Integrate, as well as advanced actions that can be defined on Table or Column properties, filtering restrictions, mapping actions, and transformation capabilities. This lesson also covers data mapping between different layouts, transformations, and DDL replication.
7

Refresh and Compare

  • HVR Refresh is used for the target table materialization and initial data loads. This lesson reviews the difference between using bulk and row-wise refresh/compare operations. In addition, workshops provide you the experience to resynchronize tables by only fixing the deltas.
  • HVR Compare is our built-in data validation service which reports if your tables are in-sync, and if not, can help you refresh the differences to put you back in-sync.
8

Schedules

  • Scheduler process architecture
  • Scheduling jobs
  • Schedule action features
  • Error handling
9

Administration

  • HVR console tips and tricks
  • HVR Initialize and Capture rewind
  • Adapting a channel, online/offline
  • Monitoring and maintenance
  • Latency and statistics
  • Setting alerts
  • Error handling
  • Performance tuning
  • How to add tables to a channel definition and perform an online refresh
  • Upgrade considerations and procedure
  • Global support
